Want to quit smoking?There are a number of different services for people wishing to gain access to quit smoking support, advice, and low-cost nicotine replacement therapy. The QuitlineThe Quitline (0800 778 778) offers free telephone support, resources and low cost nicotine patches and gum for people wanting to quit smoking. The first four weeks of nicotine patches or gum costs $5.00.* Call 0800 778 778 to speak to a Quit Adviser or visit the site at www.quit.org.nz. Aukati Kai PaipaThis programme is run in around 37 sites around the country. It primarily targets Māori women and their whānau, and provides one-on-one counselling to help people quit smoking. Other servicesThere are a variety of smoking cessation services available locally - including those provided by your local GP or health worker. For a list of local quit smoking services contact the smokefree co-ordinator at your local Public Health Unit (PHU).
